The National Geographic Theme Gets Revamped
January 27th, 2012
Client: National Geographic Channel | Agency: Fox Cable Networks |
Music: Musikvergnuegen |
With the National Geographic Channel's growing viewership, particularly among younger demographics, it was only a matter of time before they sought to refashion their eponymous theme with modern compositional and recording techniques. In order to update their image for such an audience, they asked Musikv to revamp the famous theme in the stylings of a contemporary movie score. The original iteration of the theme, composed by legendary film composer Elmer Bernstein in 1966, is precisely evocative of a pioneering and adventurous spirit. However, "adventure," musically speaking, has taken on a more "death-defying" tone in recent orchestral scores. Therefore, we maintained the signature element, the main melody of the piece, but etched out a new development. To top it all off, we recorded live instrumentation, giving the piece its cinematic grandness and scale. As it has yet to air, we can't share our version of the theme just yet, but we will be sure to post it as soon as we are allowed.
