The National Geographic Theme Gets Revamped
January 27th, 2012

With the National Geographic Channel's growing viewership, particularly among younger demographics, it was only a matter of time before they sought to refashion their eponymous theme with modern compositional and recording techniques. In order to update their image for such an audience, they asked Musikv to revamp the famous theme in the stylings of a contemporary movie score. The original iteration of the theme, composed by legendary film composer Elmer Bernstein in 1966, is precisely evocative of a pioneering and adventurous spirit. However, "adventure," musically speaking, has taken on a more "death-defying" tone in recent orchestral scores. Therefore, we maintained the signature element, the main melody of the piece, but etched out a new development. To top it all off, we recorded live instrumentation, giving the piece its cinematic grandness and scale. As it has yet to air, we can't share our version of the theme just yet, but we will be sure to post it as soon as we are allowed.

Musikv at SXSW 2012
December 8th, 2011
Musikv's Creative Director Walter Werzowa will be traveling to Austin, Texas next year to participate in the 2012 SXSW Interactive Festival. Alongside branding expert Marc Shillum, Walter will be speaking at a panel called "Brands as Patterns." In particular, this panel is meant to discuss how patterns play a vital role in effective visual and audio branding. Patterns, by definition, are a kind of variation that is built on consistency, and these can keep audiences interested while maintaining a degree of familiarity. The panel will address this and other ideas in great detail. SXSW is going on from March 9th to the 18th, and you can find out more information at SXSW.com.
